Dr Jill Maxwell – Adelaide City Doctors
Dr Jill Maxwell’s general practice in the Adelaide CBD was heading in a new direction, and therefore required an IT upgrade. Their original set-up consisted of a desktop PC, which acted as a file server for all the other PC’s in the practice to access data for their medical software. Backing up data was performed by two external hard drives, one week on, one week off. This existing setup had several limitations in areas such as data management and backup, as well as remote access.
After in-depth discussions with Principal Doctor, Jill Maxwell and Practice Manager, Colleen Hanlon regarding the future direction of the practice, a virtualisation server solution was designed and recommended by Copperwire. The ability to work remotely was of high importance, therefore a combined small business server and terminal server was installed on the one server. This was exactly what the doctor ordered! Impressed with Copperwire’s recommendations and solutions, Adelaide City Doctors implemented the virtualisation solution.
Once installed, this solution enabled all users to access all software programs directly on the terminal server via terminal services, providing a more efficient and faster operating environment. Medical software now only requires upgrades to be performed on the Terminal Server instead of every desktop PC, and all staff can work from home as though they are in the office via remote access if and when required. Backups are now performed daily via a backup tape drive to tape, and are changed daily and rotated weekly in coordination with data going offsite.
As a result of the new server upgrade, Dr Jill Maxwell’s practice is now operating seamlessly with a fully integrated solution designed specifically for their busy practice.
